The address the goods were being shipped to was not yet owned by us and if something had delayed or stopped the purchase we would have had to divert the shipment to a storage facility. But you can't easily explain that on a form so I just gave the address we hoped we would own by the time the goods arrived. |

Robbie, I heard back from HMRC this morning on a few things.... they are planning to issue further guidance by way of a new information paper on the gov.uk paper in the next few weeks which will be really helpful. Regarding addresses they've indicated that this will say you can provide a temporary address with an explanation on why permanent address is not yet established.
They may then ask you to notify them of permanent address at a later stage, this is why that email address and phone number is so important as they may contact you during the decision making stage for clarification or further details/instructions. I don't get a reply to. Is there another email address or phone number? Tried phoning them and was on hold for 45 minutes before I gave up! From ToR application to recieving approval took around 3 weeks ... don't know if that is normal or not. |

I called them two or three days ago. Was on hold for less than 15 mins. Really nice woman. Pleasant and informative.

If you’re not claiming a relief The import declaration should be made to ‘free circulation’ if you’re not claiming a relief. Hi All,
The number for NCH is 03000 588 454. They are open Mon-Fri 9 to 5 GMT. I have called them today to check the status of my TOR approval. After a good long 30 min wait, spoken to a really patient guy named Mike and he stated they are at a 2 week backlog... so hopefully i will get my approval in time as my shipment arrives! Cheers! |

If you aren't applying for / aren't eligible for transfer of residence (or any other) tax relief to request duty free entry of your household goods you declare under free circulation. HMRC will then assess the detailed list of your items and calculate any applicable duties that you will have to pay to import your goods. If you are doing this your removal company should talk you through the information you'll need to provide on that list.

I'm trying to complete these forms right now for our move back to the UK. Have a quick question which HMRC are not clear on. Can I ship everything under my name only (even though a lot of our stuff is my wife and daughter's). My wife is not from the EU (or the US) and won't have a visa until long after our shipment arrives.
I also wondered what people's experience with providing receipts was - we have about half of our stuff with receipts, but a lot of clothes, shoes, toys etc don't have them..... thanks so much! |

We answer no as we are not going there to study, I then get a popup message saying "These goods aren't eligible for relief and should be declared to free circulation paying any taxes due.". Is this how this question should be answered?
Also, do you know if they are going to tax me on a 55" TV that is 2 years old? Any help would be great! |
