Default CONTAINER INSURANCE

Hi,

I'm shipping all our possessions to the UK from the USA in a 20ft shipping container. Oakland CA to Liverpool to be exact.

Does anyone have any shipping insurance recommendations ?

Thanks

We only paid for insurance if ship went down or container slipped off ship into sea. I packed the boxes myself so could not get insurance and it was very expensive if I could. I did have a lot of breakages of crystal glasses even though I padded them up. It seemed it was not the packing but the heat and vibration that smashed them. A few pieces of old crockery also ended up on bin but I just put it down to bad luck because goods broken would be nowhere as expensive if I had to pay for packing. All furniture was in good shape as was my flat screen tv.

We didn't bother with insurance the last 2 times (UK-US then US-UK). One of the container contacts said it was virtually worthless. We've had a few scratches here and there, but never had any breakage - maybe that was just just Pure Dumb Luck (PDL).

Can you tell me which shipping service you used and were you happy with them?

On our most recent and fourth shipping consignment, we also decided to go for total loss only insurance. We were reconciled with getting one or two things broken or some minor damage and decided that it was just the total loss that would be a problem for us. I think we went with Letton Percival.

We used Robinsons in UK who were not cheap but they found us a local agent where we lived as all the removal companies were busy with military moves. Robinsons have moved me twice around the world and are very good.

We shipped with Upakweship and we chose not to insure. When you really look into the policies the coverage is rubbish unless you pay through the nose. We had no issues at all. But like Vadio said perhaps it was dumb luck.
