Default Christmas is Upon Us.....already!!!

Well it's that time of year, we've barely seen out halloween and suddenly the telly is full of Christmas ads, shops have got all their Christmas decs out, there's Christmas lights out in our local high street, the mornings and evenings are getting chilly and you know what.....I JUST LOVE IT!!!!!

To me this is what Christmas is all about - sod the prawns and barbie on the beach, Christmas is all about crap weather, long queues in the shops, central heating on full blast and having all my nearest and dearest around (ooh and also the birth of Christ - God forgive me for forgetting! - I will be enjoying going to Christingle service again with the kids at church!!).

I know for some an Aussie Christmas is second to none - but we had 2 Christmases in Perth and I blummin' loathed both of 'em! Christ was born in the Northern Hemisphere so Christmas should be chilly!

Anyway to anyone planning to come home for Christmas - good luck and best wishes - enjoy!!!

Now that is cruel!!! here I am in Perth and the weather is slowly warming up by Christmas time I am usually a cooked as our Turkey (yes we still have the traditional here in our home....there would be uproar if I said...lets have a bbq!!) we had our first Christmas back home 3years ago after having 7 Aussie Christmas here and no matter how hard we have tried here (our home looks like an Airport runway from outside!!) it is just not the same...no nativity plays at school..songs are about santa and his ute!! sacrilege...no Xmas pud with holly going around it in between ads (and boy are there loads of them here...don't get me started on that one!!) no Radio/T.V times for the month of Dec with all the golden oldie films on and new ones over Christmas...oh I could go on and on.....wearing your new pressies for a quick drink in your local before Christmas lunch...ie new jumpers on the men...jewellery and perfume being flashed around by the ladies....oh my oh my how will I get through it....well we do...just...but we will be home in March 08.....and we will never want to spend a sunny Christmas again for many many years if ever...you can keep them....Christmas is dark nights with Christmas Trees being proudly shown in the front room of most homes....works parties were you pick your outfit weeks before.......(not just a few beers and a bbq in the hight of the heat in the afternoon as at my last employers....where the most dressed up person was me and boy did I look out of place!!)...we plan to enjoy our last Aussie Christmas as much as possibly and with great tradition....bbq's...bah.....does not come even close!!
So everyone out there....enjoy Christmas make the most of it but there was never a true word written as "Christmas in the Northern Hemisphere is the best"!!!!
Jackie who is slowly cooking in Perth...gulp

Haha, that's so true, I remember it used to seem earlier and earlier every year in Blighty, I'm sure it was september they'd start putting xmas stuff in shops!

Must admit though, I was surprised to see our local Myer put the christmas decoration section up a month ago, which I thought was unusual for here. So I guess Aus is going that way too.

My SIL works for Tesco and her birthday is end of September and she complains every year that her store puts the decos up before her birthday.

You may need to brush up on your geography. He was apparently born in Bethlehem, which won't be under a foot of snow come December.

Anyway, he was Jewish, never converted, and Christmas is really just a pagan mid-winter festival.

Well considering it is all fictional anyway, none of it matters.

Xmas, a load of overhyped commercialisation of making money and exploiting people wanting a sense of meaning to wasting their money.

Roll on NY.

xmas to me is unconditional gift exchanging, and lots of family and friends around.

loads of wine and food,

all it is now, is DFS sofa adverts and kitchens, oh and sales on BOXING day...

needless to say I have cancelled my SKY subsciption.

MR Humbug,

great film by the way "Scrooge" one of my favourites.
