Canada advice please
#16
Hi Dorothy - We're actually in Port Colborne. Ended up here as we had no other contacts in Canada but we knew a couple of people in town. When we came over in '06 it seemed like a nice place. Indeed it is not too bad, nice people, quiet etc etc but lots of oldies presumably left over from the 'boom' times - since been described to us as a town for 'the newly wed and nearly dead'....
Sadly don't have the capital to keep relocating, if only we did (sigh...) - our time here has made us realise what we left behind. Need to get back while kids are still young enough to re-adapt. No regrets however!

You should expect to make sacrifices for a few years.
I get back to the UK quite frequently (usually a couple of times a month), and am always pleased to get back home to Canada. Don't miss the UK, never have, don't anticipate that changing now.

Good luck back in UK. It's a great attitude that you'll have no regrets.

Yes, the mosquitoes, they weren't something I even considered!! We're near Niagara Falls (20 mins away) a place described to me by a Canadian chum who's lived here all his life as "living in a depressed swamp". I don't mind the winters but the humidity in the summer where we are gets unbearable.
We arrived in Nov 06 & are returning as soon as house sells - Any one wanna buy it??!!
I miss the Family first & foremost!!, BBC (wont ever moan about the licence again I swear!!), High Streets, villages, public transport, REAL bacon, decent cheese, ale, variety in food clothes & the like, NOT paying tax when I buy a second-hand car (you do here, in Ontario at least) - I could go on & on.
Best advice I can give is rent your UK house DON'T SELL IT!!! Come over and give it a go, you may love it but have a fall back plan firmly in place if you find you don't!!
Good luck with the tough decisions you're going to make.
