Can I get laksa and tom yum paste in UK supermarkets
Part 3 of my trivial questions, I am reassured now about fences and bathroom cabinet, so...
I have got into Asian (as in Far East) food a lot in my time here, it is one of my favourite things about Aus.
Can I get the pastes and other ingredients for laksa, tom yum, tom ka ghai etc in Tesco and the like, or will I need to seek out an Asian supermarket?
What about lime leaves, and coriander plants (which I take it would have to live inside).
Thanks people.

Thanks for the link, had a look - not looking good so far, at Tesco or ASDA.
Will try Sainsburys and Waitrose and report back presently.

That's good about the lime leaves northernbird, I doubt I will be growing a lime tree of my own in Scotland.
As for making all the curry pastes yourself from scratch - respect, I don't mind cutting up the meat and veggies but have never made the pastes myself from the raw ingredients, well done - do you make a big batch and freeze it or make it fresh every time you make a curry or laksa?

Re: Can I get laksa and tom yum paste in UK supermarkets
When iwas back there in the summer, I wanted to make a laksa and a thai recipe for my daugther using kaffir lime leaves. Laksa paste and ingredients easy to get in any supermarket. Kaffir Lime leaves were very difficult. Didnt not find fresh anywhere.
I tried, Sainsbury, Tesco, Asda. M&S. The only thing i managed to get in a supermarkert was a jar of dried kaffir lime leaves in Waitrose. However, i did mange to get a large packet of frozen leaves in a little speciality chinese supermarket. The lady told me it would be hard to get frsh leaves as they are expensive to import and do not keep long fresh.

I have bought them in Tesco before but I could have just been lucky.
This place will pick and mail the leaves to you. http://www.citruscentre.co.uk/kaffir.htm
You can buy the plant from here, you could keep it indoors, it has lovely flowers.

Sainsburies do Thai red and green curry pastes which are imported from Asia. I used to use them all the time. Can't remember what they are called but they come in big plastic tubs and the paste is in a plastic sachet inside. They kept it in their specialist cooking area.
Lime leaves, corriander and curry leaves etc - all easily available back home.
There's a huge asian or maybe it's chinese warehouse in Glasgow near the George Square turn off on the M8 coming into Glasgow past Canniesburn Hospital on the left. There's also loads of Indian supermarkets around the westend so I'm sure there will be other asian shops there too where they sell traditional cooking products.
We're from Hamilton. ( about 10 miles outside Glasgow ) Have never wanted to go back and live my life there. Been away for AGES but I love, love, love going back there every time and will ALWAYS say that's where I'm from.
We are moving to York.Never lived there before but have always liked it when we've been there on breaks.
It's all part of the moving back and trying something else plan.
Remember you get a great chinease/indian in Glasgow - so you may never have to cook again!! ;o) ;o) ;o)
