Hi, I'm looking for people who've decided for whatever reason Canada's not for them and are moving back to Britain...and are willing to be interviewed about it. I'm a journalist putting together a story on why Canada is losing Brits in numbers as well as recruiting them and some of the reasons.
PM me with some brief details if you're interested.

Ditto the above poster, I don't see myself going back to the UK in the next few years but long term future wise Canada doesnt do it for me.

reasons: 1) its boring here except for the summers and golf season. 2) people are always highly strung (3) money rules all relationships which makes it impossible to have a conversation without purpose. (4) social drinking is frowned upon, thus widespread closet consumption (5) there are far too many "causes" people latch on to. If you dont agree/support any one of these you become the protagonist automatically even if you have absolutely no view on the subject. (6) there is a tendency in Canada to be secretive. If you are on the winning team this is fine, but if not, there's no way of defending yourself. (7) "communication" here means being able to dial a number as opposed to being able to use words sparingly and correctly. (8) there is absolutely no unbiased journalism. Newspapers use emotive, subjective language and TV reporters are too facially active to doubt what their opinions are. Long live the BBC (9) ignorance and illiteracy is more widespread than is acknowledged (10) the legal arena is third world like in its implementation of perfectly good laws (11) for the size of its population, plastic surgery and botox use is intense. (12) driving a late model vehicle is more important than education. All in all, Canada is like its great lakes: big, beautiful but no taste, no fragrance.

Sometimes i really miss it and sometimes i shudder at the thought of being there. The working week i found ok but the weekends were very boring. I need more than the sea wall to excite me. Once you've done Whistler and Seattle a few times it does become tedious. Like the guy said, the media is completely one sided and I worked in it. Nice people though im still in touch with loads of them. We'll probably return when we dont have to work. My wife hated working there.

I disagree with (8). The BBC is viscerally biased, opposed to CBC et. al who are blatantly biased and don't give a crap 'cos they are not strictly publicly funded.
And the comment about the job market networking is SO true.

The grass isn't greener in Canada with respect to the UK, It's just cut differently... and has less dog doo-doo in it.

I used to stand and think how disgusting............they'd not do that and get away with it in the UK.

haha talking of dog doo-doo, i use too watch people, where i was living in Canada blatantly stand outside peoples gardens with their dogs on leads, allowing them to P and S in peoples gardens and then they would just walk off

In most parts of the UK, they would do that, and would get away with it as most people are now to afraid to stand up to them, in fear of what might happen in return
