Yes, but let's try to keep this in perspective - compared with Kobe Bryant, Michael Vick, O J Simpson, Paris Hilton, George W Bush, Dick Cheney and Rod Blagojevich to name but only a very few, Michael Phelps doesn't come even remotely close to getting on my personal list of "public figures who are a bad influence on children" ...

give the guy a break! as far as i know he wanted to win gold not be a role model to all of America's youth..he's a real person and we all have our faults ..I'm sure he doesn't do this regularly or he wouldn't have allowed the picture to be taken ...sounds like somebody took advantage of him.

Nonsense, if so many people weren't so obviously obsessed by what the "public figures" (for that, read "celebrity figures") were constantly doing, and concentrated a little more on their own lives instead, maybe what the "public figures" did in their private lives wouldn't be of such huge importance.Sponsorships, marketing and the media seem to be able influence some some people to a point of frenzy. I suppose that's the reason that shows like TMZ manage to become so popular, and evidently compulsive viewing for such a big audience. It's pretty pathetic.

well I think this has all blown out of proportion...I watched all of his races at the olympics..he was frigging AMAZING!!!
