What proof do you need to get a bus pass or a rail card. I am planning to move back to the UK around Christmas. I will be renting for 6 months. Also I need to request that
my British Pension be paid to me in the UK and not into my bank in Canada. Should I call them ahead of time and give them a contact address. Thanks. It has been 3 years since I applied for a senior rail pass so I don’t recall but would expect it to be the driving licence again. I think the application was all online, and we chose to download the pass to our phones rather than have a physical card. |

Thanks. I won’t have a British driving license. Maybe I can use my passport.

Just checked, and even with a driving licence you need to provide proof of residence. From our County website. You will be required to create an account and include proof that you are of pensionable age (birth certificate or driving licence) and that you are resident (e.g. utility bill or council tax bill) and include a digital photograph. The relevant evidence will need to be added using either a photograph or a PDF document. |

Train fares are far too high, especially when trying to encourage train usage vs. cars for environmental reasons. Advance fares can be cheaper, but means taking a chance on the weather. And not being spontaneous.
Anyway, paying just two-thirds the price with the senior rail card makes most ticket prices seem very reasonable. |

Hi All, hope you are all well and keeping safe
Looking to move back to the UK from Canada to retire in a few years, UK citizens, so shouldn't be an issues, just wondering if there are any pitfalls to watch out for, keep hearing deemed disposition banded about, and what are the tax implications of selling up in Canada and Buying property in the UK, also drawing on Canada based pensions or transfering funds to UK based pensions. any advice will be greatly received . We had to spend a small fortune on COVID tests, 1 to fly, day 2 & 8 and early release at day 5 for the 10 day quarantine period, cost around $1500! Arranged pet transport for the cat at a cost of nearly $4k, container $24k and realtor fees of $60k! Definitely not cheap to sell property and move countries! We upgraded our return flight to the UK with Air Canada as a treat and fly on the 18th July. Tons and tons of paperwork to complete and things to sell. This is making time go by very fast. |

Hi
1. Note that you need 20 years of residency after the age of 18 to have your Canada OAS paid abroad unless the UK has a social security agreement with Canada. Something to consider with 20 years in Canada you would be entitled to about $307 per month for life. The 20yr thing suprised me a strange clause you can check online cpp etc https://www.canada.ca/en/services/be...it/amount.html 15yrs in canada can give $500 at 65 cheers jerry |

But remember OAS is linked to income. So not everybody gets it

Re: British citizens moving back to UK from Canada to retire
Hi there,
I am planning on returning to the UK in October after living in Toronto for 34 years. I've just retired and sold my condo. I have a couple of questions; 1. Should I have my CPP and work pension paid into a British Bank account when I open one on arrival or just leave them being paid into my Canadian account and withdraw as I need? 2. Other than the TOR form are there any other forms required before I leave? I am using an international mover - probably Orbit and they say they help with the TOR. My son will remain here and is POA for my bank account as I will leave my RRSP here initially. Any advice is welcome - there are a lot of things I had no clue about when I started this journey! |
