Just another example the further you are from London the more property for less money you can buy. Very nice listed 2 graded home simple and comfortable and redesigned indoors

Newbury is just West of Reading and the surrounding countryside is lovely. Pretty good transport links by car and rail, plus you get to visit "Downton Abbey" nearby - Highclere. Some nice smaller towns around it as well. That would be considered commutable to London by the locals.

You can buy a street in some Cities for little more than a tenner - nobody wants to though!

Are there certain property firm websites that should be avoided because the company has a poor business reputation?
Currently looking at KnightFrank. Has several impressive properties.

Not really, most estate agents all do pretty much the same thing. Knight Frank is a higher end of the market national agent, like Strutt & Parker. As a buyer, your dealing with the agent will be minimal anyway, it's only if selling that I'd be researching estate agents and reading their reviews really.

This is an amazing property and a reminder there are a lot of various options on multiple websites.

And don't forget, you'll find lots that aren't on the open market at the higher end of the market, so do speak to the agents ahead of going over. We have two properties we're interested in, neither are being advertised as for sale.

Various options if you have that kind of budget, yes. Not many people do!

Most sellers that can wait tend to ask for at least 10-15% more than the property is worth. I like to offer 20% less than the ask and see how motivated the seller is. But not too low where it feels insulting, but for some sellers anything less than the asking price is not considered a serious buyer. And of course many buyers want a unreasonable purchase price. Brexit changes everything for everyone involved. Thanks for the tip.
Do you miss being in the real estate game? You are a natural. I'm still looking for a property nicer than the one you mentioned and that's not easy.. I don't want to spend a dollar more than we have to. But we're thinking if a Hard Brexit does happen, and there is a substantial devaluation in the market it might be silly not to buy as much property as we can afford afterwards. What goes down in this situation will go back up. There's a lot of factors involved including the exchange rate fluctuations. Some people think a hard Brexit will not impact the pound but I disagree.

In the States we call those pocket listings when a property is for sale, and in the hands of a real estate firm but not yet marketed to the general public. Usually they tend to sale near the seller's asking price in order to stop the agent from testing the market for a higher offer.

That's how we got our place in Switzerland, we'd been renting for four years and it was then offered to us without being put on the open market.
It's a win-win as you get to "try before you buy" and there are no moving costs.
