We are retiring back to UK not looking for jobs but my daughter 40 and grandaughter 18 coming back with us.How long do they have to be in UK Scotland before they qualify for Jobseekers allowance unemployment etc.My daughter runs her own tattoo studio and plans to open one up over there.I have explained all the pros and cons and just want to see if she will have some sort of safety net..............

It depends on the benefit., some require 'habitual residence', and can't be claimed until at least 3 months have passed. More info here - https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/be...ming-benefits/

I assume they're both UK citizens as well, so no need for visas? Is your granddaughter planning on working or studying?

Not likely to get unemployment benefit if they are only just moving back to the UK .....

Not likely to get job seekers allowance with no NI record.

https://www.gov.uk/jobseekers-allowance

Eligibility

To be eligible for ‘new style’ Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) you’ll need to have both:
  • worked as an employee
  • paid Class 1 National Insurance contributions, usually in the last 2 to 3 years (National Insurance credits can also count)
You will not be eligible if you were self-employed and only paid Class 2 National Insurance contributions, unless you were working as a share fisherman or a volunteer development worker.

You are all relocating from Canada? I take it you, your spouse and your daughter were all born in the UK but your granddaughter was born in Canada?
