Yep, after watching the TV doco's the Foreign Legion they are up there with the best. If the OP did not already know they were created 'so as good decent French men would not have to loose their lives in France's oversea's colonies'
Not only Stan and Ollie but the Carry On Team are among the recruits!

Stan and Ollie joined to forget, when asked after one day what they wanted to forget, they replied that they had already forgotten

According to a couple of reputable web sites only 8% of applicants to the SAS manage to get through the entire selection process and probationary period.
Stan and Ollie, you gotta love 'em!

Less serious part of the thread- They`re especially good at delivering a piano to your house, cleaning out your chimney, a bit of plumbing and of course washing the plates.

Serious part of the thread- They also survive on just 4 hours sleep a night.........I don`t like the sound of that!

Both guys had served around 6 years with their parent units before obtaining the coveted place within the SAS regiment.
I also think that anyone who looks at the SAS and is desperate for the glory are not the ones that the regiment require?

I have known two guys who have been SAS members (one in the UK and one in NZ) they are quiet unassuming guys, unremarkable in mnay aspects (and I mean that in a good way), one of the guys was at the Iranian Embassy Seige. They were both very non commital when talking of their pasts (spoke openly about their time in their parent units but then became quiet and withdrawn).

To be in an elite team does take a very special person, especially from a mental perspective.

Delta Force had their butts kicked pretty hard in "Black Hawk Down" So they`re probably looking for some new recruits.

After the minimum period (6 years or so)you may be able to then apply for your citizenship.
Marrying a UK national will not give you the right to join the military or obtain citizenship!
Once you have received citizenship you MAY be able apply to join the army.
IF you are succesful in joining the army you will need to complete basic training then 3 years minimum service (preferably with some combat experience) to apply for the SAS..........this has now taken you a minimum of 10 years.....
In order for you to obtain security clearance the Security Intelligence Services will undertake character references and background checks (including checks with your birth country's security services).
Citizenship and security clearences are different issues, the first permits you all the privalges of a UK national the security clearence gives a person who is employed in sensitive security areas the ability to work within those areas.
As you have stated in the first sentence, people from other countries are not permitted to join the Russian forces, you may find that the same rules apply to the british military (or at least certain specialist sections).
So for you to have your dream of being in the SAS it is PROBABLY going to take you a minimum of 10 years to get there, providing everything is straight forward for you.
You will also probably experience the same time frames for the US and the same problems in joining the military there........

To obtain citizenship in the UK you need to have worked in the UK for 6 years, (yes legally!) providing that as a (1) European citizen you are allowed to live and work in the UK OR (2) as a Non EU citizen you have the required work permits, I would check out the Immigration Service and enquire about your rights as to working from both perspectives (EU citizen and non EU).
After the minimum period (6 years or so)you may be able to then apply for your citizenship.

Frensh legion isnt an SF,
Russian spetnas is like the US rangers,
The real russian SF is the GRU, top secret, fll psychologie, i think its the best team ever ... But my problem is that i got the russian nationality (but my dad was a kazach) ... so no chance ... Its russia not america or europe ...
I want to join the delta force, british SAS, 1 of those 2forces but i prefer the SAS

Having served with the British Military and along side The French Foreign Legion. i can confirm they are some of the best soldiers i have met and fought with....
To Join the army you must be a Citizen of a Commonwealth country or those with British Overseas Territories Citizenship.
So if you meet those requirements and you want to join up i would recommend joining the paras as over 80% who make into the SAS come from this regiment.
Their is a 97% failure rate to join the SAS Regiment...
