Just a few lines to check-in with people about how we're doing here in Essex.
We've been here almost three weeks and everything's great. The primary school is fantastic. I've applied for three jobs and am on the books with several agencies, I think I'll get something before too long. My husband is visiting the airport tomorrow to see if they have any vacancies. Have applied for child benefit and tax credits, hopefully these will go through without any significant difficulties. Jobseekers allowance is a whole different ball game...
We've registered with a doctor and an NHS dentist. Bought a great car, with a higher spec, cheaper than the one we sold in Greece. Everything is so CHEAP here (compared to Greece).
Generally, we're all very happy. My daughter has settled in brilliantly, and we're doing really well.
Edit: Churchill car insurance accepted a letter from our insurance company in Greece as proof of my husband's no claim status. Car insurance 239 gbp per year.

Also decided that once we are back in the land of winter christmas's (even if it takes longer than this time next year) there is no way my family are going to convince me to come out here for Christmas with them in summer.
Well ... I might consider it if they pay for 6 airfares

I was just thinking this exact thought myself today as I drove into town on a hot day.

Been here less than three weeks and have been offered two temp jobs (short-term) starting next week. Feeling very positive.
Reference checks are much more stringent than they were ten years ago though.

I remember I had to show my passport last year to prove I was British (with my accent!!
). I think it's because of all the EU migrants, probably why they are so hot on your references too.
