I live just down the road in Nuneaton; about 25 mins drive away. Most people here avoid Cov like the plague unless they're unlucky enough to work there.
It was the architecture, or lack of it, that got you down I suspect?! There's a tiny little bit the Germans didn't bomb and we didn't subsequently raze to put up identikit blocks of flats. Near where the new IKEA is being built ironically enough. It's worth a look if you're ever brave enough to come back

Not in Coventry, but a few miles away in Kenilworth. I was told when I started moving back to go to the Univ of Warwick that I should take a right-hand turn out of the university heading towards Kenilworth and Leamington Spa, and never ever take a left towards Coventry. It is pretty manky. However, a friend of mine who went to Coventry Poly in the '80s came up here from Epsom last week and was amazed at how much better Coventry is now - I guess it has had some kind of regeneration (there's a great IKEA). On the whole, however, Coventry depresses me and makes me wonder why i came back. To avoid that, I tend to shop in Leamington Spa, which is really lovely. Great old Georgian architecture, good shopping, etc. All the best of being home.
Once you leave Coventry, you also have the gorgeous Warwickshire countryside. It is really stunning up here. Just avoid Coventry!!!!

They built that IKEA now then, just goes to show how often I visit. Millennium Place with the shiny blue bridge thing is nice but most of the rest needs work. Or just demolition.
Warwickshire is lovely, though I'd add Nuneaton and Bedworth to Cov on the list of places to avoid if possible.

We used to live in Warwickshire in a little village called Bishops Itchington. The countryside around there is stunning.
Coventry is to be avoided at all cost!

[QUOTE=windward;6068004]Ah, good pub quiz question that, one I've used myself 'Which city is the University of Warwick in?' Get you though, going to such a posh school!
[/QUOTE
Someone raised this question during our induction day, and we were told the "official" reason for it being called U of Warwick was that there was already a Coventry uni. The "unofficial" reason we were told later that day with a wink and a nod was "superb public relations"!!!!!! Masterful.
The university is gorgeous though. There's a spot on the top floor of the business school where you can look out over fields and countryside - guess where I spend most of my study time!
