Any thoughts/experience with Sale, Gtr. Manchester?
It's on our list of good commute time and good schools.
We'll be going to take a look in about two weeks but wanted to know if anyone has recent experience of the Sale area?
Thanks.

We have just spent 2-3 months in Sale. It's very nice in most parts, it has the tram station and is on the ring road for commuting so everything is say to get to. They have the Grammar School and the kids seemed well behaved outside of school, walking home etc. My husband is originally from Sale!

Well there are not so nice bits and really some quite nice leafy suburb bits, depends on your budget really. As far as the Uk goes I would say it is a nice urban place to live although Hale, Altrincham are better, they will be more expensive.

Thanks.
We will be driving through there on the 23rd I expect so will try to get a feel for it. Will be speaking with letting agents too.
I appreciate the feedback.

Hi there
Lived in Sale for more than 40 years before we moved to Auckland. Is generally a good place, but like most towns it has its slightly less desireable areas. Generally avoid what is known as 'The Racecourse Estate', but otherwise should be fine. Some good schools both primary and secondary with Ashton on Mersey now having a sixth form. Not sure if relevant to you. But both my daughters were educated there - both successfully completed their tertiary education now. Headmaster is excellent.
Public transport good, trams awesome. Very close to the Trafford Centre - huge shopping mall and to city centre Manchester for jobs, shopping, art galleries and night life.
Only 15 mins from Manchester Airport too. Still have family there. If anything in particular I can help with just let me know

Thank you Sparkleydiva.
We are interested in the Grammar School for our son which is one of the reasons we targeted that area. Also the short commute will be lovely for my wife (and maybe me once I get settled and find something).
Thanks for the advice on "The racecourse estate" area, we will keep that in mind when looking.
If we have any specific questions I ll be sure to PM you.

You're welcome.
I attended Sale Grammar too, but there were separate boys and girls schools in those days.
Your son willhave to pass the 11+ to get a place at grammar and there are two or three primary schools that have higher than average pass rates. Those are Brooklands Primary, Tyntesfield and Woodheys. As you will imagine all in good areas with strict catchment zones.

Hi all , I am also looking at moving back to the Uk from NZ into the Manchester area . I have been looking at Bury and Prestwich . I would appreciate any info . I have 3 secondary age children and so a good secondary school is really important for us . They are the typical Kiwi kids , sporty , well rounded happy individuals so an area that has a good family feel to it is important also . Thanks
