Default Any information re driver's license and insurance for a 71 year old

After all my near fatal accident last year, I am returning to the UK in the near future.
Does anyone know if there are any restrictions for the year before changing to a UK license from a USA license if one is already 70 years old? I have a lifetime clean record. Maybe it might be prudent for me to call an insurance agency in Belfast??

Not sure I'm quite answering your question but my parents ages 72 and 71 just moved back with us from Canada and had UK licences and UK insurance within a month of their return - no problem at all. Good luck!

Thank you so much! Did they still have their old licenses? I lost mine many years ago.

You can go to the DVLA website and write them an email. They will reply within a day or two and answer your specific questions. I asked about my husband who is 71 and has a full Israeli driving license. He will be able to use his Israeli driving license for 1 year (I have a UK drivers license and I wil own the car so I can put him on my insurance) before the year is up he has to request a provisional UK drivers license and pass a theory test and a driving test to get a UK license. I hope he passes!!! I hope that helps?

BY the way if you originally passed your driving test in the UK it's a different matter.
But as I said write a message to the DLVA asking about your circumstances:
https://www.gov.uk/contact-the-dvla

And I got an insurance quote from endsleigh who gave me a quote for about £600 for car insurance for me with my husband as a second driver and for just him on his own with a foreign driving licence (from a non-European country) about £150 more.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was thinking and hoping. If I get a year before a test, I'm sure I could manage it. I have an Infinity SUV which is made by Nissan. I hope to purchase a much smaller automatic Nissan. They all look pretty similar in the interior. Northern Ireland has slightly different rules I have heard.

Sounds pretty reasonable re insurance. My agency here will provide my clean diving record which should help a lot. Thank you for the info!
