My journey through Irish family history research has been going for nigh on 20 years, & there are so many dead ends
.I did find that tweaking various threads and tracking down family members across the world has revealed bits and bobs of info I didn't have (a family bible with a list of BMD in New Zealand; ancient photos & letters in NZ, OZ, Canada; and a great uncle's WWI medals in Canada, as well as oral history from the cousin we found in Canada), and filled in some gaps.
The more I search, the more pieces of the puzzle I find, it's the fitting the pieces together that is extraordinarily difficult! And a cousin who is as enthusiastic as I am, but who makes unsubstantiated leaps and bounds rather than doing methodical research doesn't help!!
The LDS family search programme was helpful to start with, but I quickly found too many errors/wrongly linked families to continue to use it.
