Default Am I classed as UK resident?

I moved to Ireland 2 years ago, in the last couple of weeks I’ve signed a rental agreement with a Lettings agency to rent a property and am moving in in the next few weeks, would I now be classed as UK resident again from when I change all of my addresses to there? I’ve also signed a job contract too.

Moving in to where? Try to make your post more clear.

If to UK, you become resident after 3 months.
What is your UK tax code?
Have you told IE tax office?

Assuming you’re moving from Ireland to the UK then resident for what purpose? Tax residency, NHS eligibility, benefits etc? All will have different answers as to when you’re deemed to be resident so if you can give more info then hopefully we can try and help.

As others have already said, there are multiple different definitions of "resident", with different rules, though if you're a British citizen with a home in the UK, whether rented or owned, it is likely that you meet the definition of being "resident in the UK" for most common meanings of "resident", except where there is a minimum time stipulation, such as for access to government benefits and support. That said, it is certainly "yes", you will be resident for the commonly asked question "Am I resident in the UK for the purposes of access to the NHS?" on the day your arrive back in the UK to live in your rented home.

Not sure if I am posting my question similar to Arenoid in the right thread. I am a newbie ...I am a British citizen and have a permanent resident visa for Australia and have recently retired. I lived in Australia from 2013 till 2024. I returned to the UK in Aug 24 and claimed my UK State pension and work pension in the UK. I have a house in the UK and am planning on spending more than 183 days every year in the UK, a few months in Australia and the rest of the time travelling. My wife is Australian and she has a house in Australia. She is still working there and will continue to live there for the foreseeable future. I have no income in Australia since Aug 2024 and a small superannuation I have there is still in the accumulation phase and services my life insurance premiums. I would like some advice on tax residency rules and how my situation will impact on where and how much i will be taxed. I have recently filed my UK tax return for 2024/25 as a UK resident and may need to file my Australian tax return if I am considered to be an Australian resident or dual resident for tax purposes. Grateful for any advice on where I am considered to be a tax resident. The tax year in the UK runs from 6 April to 5 Apr whereas the in Australia it runs from 1 Jul to 30 Jun adding another complication for my tax situation in 2024/25.

It certainly appears that by spending at least 183 days in the UK that you are tax resident there. For more you can review the statutory residence test.

I know nothing about the Australia taxation rules.
