Its not just you 40s. I have just reached 60 and after 12 years in Canada am moving back to blighty. Miss friends and family and plane flights are becoming so expensive its a wrench but I now appreciate things that I didn't see when I lived uk cant wait only 20 days to go

Totally understand where you're coming from. I've been in Sydney for 8 years and it's been a great experience, however, I really want to move back to England now, for family, friends etc - problem is my Aussie wife does not want to move at all and it's causing rows (her family are all based here in Sydney and she is VERY attached to them). We've got two little girls and they both already have British passports. We're looking at moving to either Tunbridge Wells or Hastings, probably next March or April. Kent/East Sussex is not my home region, but my brother lives there, with his wife and daughter, so that's where we're looking.
Apart from the arguments with my beloved, the poorer salaries over there in my industry (I'm a teacher) worry me a bit. I'm 41 and my wife is 38 - the kids are 4 and 2.
It's not easy!

Hi BrianClough down under
Your both far younger than me and I moved out here in my fifties so you still have plenty of time to change your mind yet again .As a woman I can sympathise with your wife too as she will then be away from her family its a very difficult position I hope you have a very supportive family in UK
Very good Luck to you all I am going to Norfolk

Hi Pippalonghorn
Yes I have read from the beginning and am finding it very interesting we have all looked for something better but realise it was good before we started looking and moving now we are yearning to go back to our roots. I don't feel its scary I try to look at it as another adventure.
Should fly on 10th but having some medical problems so hoping I get across the pond before any thing too drastic happens.
Good to hear from you all

Hi
Isn't the excited/petrified seesaw just so draining? I was awful at the weekend and then pulled myself together and got all positive as had house valued and it was more than I was expecting. Then decided to go all guns blazing jobs wise.
Then son returns home from a camp and states that he doesn't want to go back now and if he can finish year 12 he will stay here without us.
I know he will be feeling tired and grumpy form being away and I have tried to explain that life has to move on and I know that they only see what's happening in the nest 5 mins at that age but it has knocked me again now!!
Still I must remain strong and focussed and just keep moving forward. It is great to be able to out things down in this forum though.

My wife and I have also decided to to the change to the UK after 13 years in Australia (I'm born and bred in WA)
The problem we have is her passport still says her maiden name and my son needs to get a british passport so they can get there before me, then we need to battle with Border Agency on the spouse visa (for me) which could take awhile but thats all fun
Down side I won't see them for a while but thats where skype comes in
BTW we are 38 & 36 years old

Fast approaching the magical age of 40 (too fast for my liking) and experiencing the 6-year itch. We've decided to head back to the UK after 6 interesting years in Canada. Good luck to everyone heading 'home'!
