Default 6 Months on!

I can't believe that it is only 6 months on..... I feel like I have never left. I am not sure if that is a good thing or not mind. My memories of Australia is nothing more than after a 2 week holiday. I have to look at photo's now to remind me of my past life.

Am I pleased to be back - YES.

I have to say that we have slotted back easily and luckily landed on our feet. We have both found jobs that suit family life. Schools for the kids have been fantastic and they are excelling. The English countryside is true home for me.... even in the wet!

Do I miss Australia - No. The places that we went were very inspiring. We lived a different life which I am pleased to say that we tried. I made some lovely friends. I am so pleased that we back packed around Australia before heading home. I really feel that it has made it worth while.

Will we ever move back!! wait for it - YES.
I can't say why but I do think that when our parents have passed on we may come back. Although that does depend on what our children are doing. The thing that really makes England for me at the moment is without a doubt having family around. If I remove them from the equation then Australia takes on a new prospective. If we ever did return then we would head either back to Sassafras or to Port Douglas.

In the mean time life in the UK is fun and even the wet doesn't bother me. I still prefer it over the hot sun with the flies and mosquitoes.

Good luck to you all who are not sure where the end is!

I really hope that I can write a post like this when we get back, except for one comment, I will never want to come back here again.

If I've learned one thing it's this: Never, ever say never.

I'm in Richmond, Va., and can completely relate! Didn't realize Newport News was that bad though. Two months to go!

It is, very nice - a good place for a holiday - Port Doug itself has gone a bit more upmarket over past few years (like alot of places) - I kinda preferred it when it was a bit less up itself & more down to earth.

Stupid isn't it.

If we ever move back it would be when we are closer to the retirement age. I feel that north Cairns would be a lovely place to have a pad. We would look at spending 6 months in both countries. In fact we are looking at coming over in a few years to buy a plot of land.

I did love living in Sassafras, Melbourne but I found Australia very hard work with young kids and the juggle of working, family... things seemed so expensive compared to wages. Maybe it was just us. Oh well after being back just 6 months we seem to be catching up financially. Houses are very expensive though and I look at what we sold 4 years ago and could weep. Advise has to be for all to rent out their houses! On the positive side we still live in one of the only countries where it is still affordable to buy your own home.
What is the market like in Australia now?

Hi WIO
Glad you sound so happy - I was wondering about you
You sound like you have a really good life-plan going on there (and the reason I wished I'd got C-Ship )

You're right, if you can keep property on in the UK before you migrate - do it.

I do think children have a lot more opportunity to do more things in the UK, and what they learn gives them a better grounding for the big wid world - but a retirement in Oz sounds like a well earned rest after living it up in Europe!
Good luck for the future and thanks for posting

The market in Oz (generally) has gone mad over the past few years.
Not sure about Melbournes hikes but on East Coast where I am its diriculous.
I think the whole wage/expenditure ratio is a huge one for alot of migrants. When we came in 2000 it was alot different.
Have you though of buying in Europe for your 2nd pad in the sun?
Hope the rains stopped

I am sorry, but what on earth are you talking about ??

I dont visit this place as often as I should but that is something I cannot agree with.

Far more for my kids to do in Oz than there ever was in UK.

However I appreciate it may be different for others.
