Default Working in Qatar and Living in Dubai

Hi all,

What are peoples experiences of working in Qatar while having a family in Dubai.

I have been looking for a job in Dubai with my current company, but they only have an opening in Qatar. I would like to take my son and wife with my and base then in Dubai, as we have family and friends already settled their.
What I would like to find out, if many people can be based out of Dubai and easily travel cheaply to Qatar for work?

Cheers

45 minute flight but a four hour journey all in with security and immigration etc. People in our office only commute weekly, you could not do this every day.

One of our friends here in AD commutes to work in Doha - he takes the first flight Sunday AM, returning Thursday evening. His wife has a very well paid job in AD, their 2 children are in a good school here, so therefore little point in moving to Doha.

Not sure how you would get a Dubai residence visa for the family if your work visa is for Qatar. Perhaps it can be done but I think it would be fairly complicated.

interesting. I know people who commute to Saudi and have family in the UAE. I've never thought of that. Maybe they have an LLC somewhere.

Anyway - I think it's a shitty idea. As bad a Doha may be, I'd rather have my family there and take the odd weekend in Dubai than the other way around.

As you quite rightly say, it's a duff idea. Not everybody likes Doha, and sometimes it can be infuriating, but on the other hand, it isn't oppressive like Saudi. Yes, it's small and smallminded sometimes, but there are many other worse places to be posted to in the GCC.

I think it is do-able to be working in Doha Sunday through Thursday, and in Dubai Thursday night to Saturday night.

However, cost will be a factor - you'd need to pay for accommodation and another car whilst in Doha, plus flights. There's an e-passport system in Doha that will cut out the immigration queue on the way in.

Fly-Dubai does really cheap flights to Doha. Worth looking into.

Pointless exercise , the residency would be difficult to get through , just too many complications . I can see why people would do it out of K.S.A but Qatar , whats the point in coming half way round the world and commuting...What for..... better brunches and carrot cake ?

Just bring your family to Doha , there's plenty to keep a family happy here.

This.

You might just end up feeling guilty later in life for time missed with your kid growing up.
