Work Experience Requirements - Dubai
Good day, everyone
Hope ppl with Dubai/UAE experience can help out with this question. I am an experienced professional (marketing/research/analytics) with a total of 9 years of post-degree XP out of which 7 solid years are directly in this domain. Have considered myself to be quite experienced and able to tackle pretty much any job in my speciality up to the level of head of research/analytics at large corporates (work in such a capacity now). Started looking up for job opps in Dubai and was often astounded at the amount (and extreme specificity) of experienced demanded. THings like "head of analytics required - minimum 15 years of xp in analytics, of which minimum 10 years as head of analytics, of which minimum 8 years in insurance industry, of which 5 years in Dubai". Wondering how realistic these demands are? I mean in Australia in my field the common knowledge is that after 5-8 years, your learning curve pretty much flattens out and someone with 15 years of xp may not necessarily be better than someone with 6 or 7. It is unusual in Australia to demand so many actual years of xp exactly in one domain (unless we are taking about top mgt jobs) and many a time experienced folk only list the last 10 years of xp.
Knowing my field I highly doubt that employers can find the kind of experience fit they advertise (though linkedin shows that there are still tens and hundreds applying for these jobs - makes you wonder how many research directors are out there with 15 y of exp of which 8 is in insurance ). The question is whether these extreme demands are in any form justified by any real glut of highly capable candidates in the market OR these are just wishlists with hardly anyone being able to satisfy them?
Please, discuss. I personally find it hard to believe that even with the state of the economy and the army of highly skilled economic refugees from Europe, the companies can find the kind of highly specific experience they all seem to be after.
Also, pls vote. Tx in advance folk.

Not so many East Europeans come out here, although their army is certainly growing. If you have a Masters Degree in Business Administration specialising in your particular field, you may find some employment opportunities.

No MBA though have uni quals in my field. BTW, yes, in addition to decades (10-15 years) of very specific experience another thing that is nearly always asked is a Masters degree.

They generally try to beef out positions as much as they can so they don't get bombarded with half a million CV's.

It's a global market with hundreds of applicants for any advertised job. Why shouldn't employers aim high?
That said its also heavily industry dependant

Re: Work Experience Requirements - Dubai
Most of the jobs I am talking about had a specific requirement for x number of years of UAE experience (along with other experience requirements). Doesn't seem to be targeting the global market, more like those within Dubai only.
