Thanks for all your replies its been a great help, im travelling alone and was just going to bring one suitcase then ship my stuff out there when i get settled. Ive got a relocation allowance but it aint much.
So it is quite strict on sharing but i take it getting a beer is ok?

No there is a new rule passed recently that states alcohol is not permitted for the first 5 months of residence. and even then only Martini is allowed

dont forget to take fill advantage of your duty free allowance upon arrival. there is a duty free next to the baggage collection.

You wont be able to buy take out booze in Dubai until you get your residence permit and then aply for your booze licence.

as for what I do for a living not much judging by the amount of time I spend on here! although when I do work Im the Chartering Manager for a Grain Trading Company

a wee trip to Ajman (o/s of sharjah) will take you to the hole in the wall, where you can get booze without a license.

Myself, i change lightbulbs on ships and oilrigs

im glad you guys have a sens of humour, one of the other sites i went on was like a funeral forum,
