Default weekly shop in Doha

hi all,

curious to know how much a weekly shop in Doha costs…here in sydney for a family of 4 we dont get much change out of $300 (aussie dollars).

sydney was voted one to be in the top 10 most expensive cities in the world.

just wondering if there are any expat families over in doha that do a weekly shop and could advise.

thanks

Russ

As a family of 4 i would say it's like for like . 300 Aussie is around 1000 QAR . Me and the wife can average around 600 QAR per week , sometimes more sometimes less.

The bad thing is that quality will not be a patch on what you get now especially with fruit and veg as 99% of everything here is imported . You can get some value if you shop about and use the wholesale markets which do give you decent savings if buying in bulk .

Food and grocery is more expensive in Doha than Australia. Not to mention the poor quality of fruit and vegetables and I don't think it is because most of it is imported. In many countries we can see imported good quality vege and fruit but here it's the lack of quality control.
Anyway, I think you will pay here for grocery and vege around 1.5x what you pay in Aus. Wholesale market is much cheaper than the supermarket (thought same quality).
