Warning - HSBC Credit Cards: major security breach
HSBC warns of major security breach
HSBC is warning its customers to change their personal identification numbers (PINs), used to withdraw cash at teller machines, after it experienced a significant security breach.
The company has sent text messages to all card holders in the UAE, advising them to make the change by the close of business tomorrow. “Together with other UAE-based banks, we have been experiencing an attack on our local accounts from counterfeit ATM card usage abroad,” said Jonathan Campbell-James, the head of security and fraud risk, at HSBC Middle East. “We have been pro-actively communicating to our customers via SMS to change their PIN numbers at any HSBC ATM as a precaution, and have implemented various containment strategies to minimize the threat posed.”
The bank suggests customers call a support line, 800 4722, to enquire about the security of their accounts.
“We have also introduced other measures to reduce the inconvenience and refund the small number of our customers that may have been affected,” Mr Campbell-James said. “It is highly unlikely that any customer who has only used HSBC ATMs will have been affected by these recent problems, as HSBC ATMs have highly effective protection against this form of fraud attack.”

I got the same message by sms but cannot be arsed to change my PIN number as it's unique to me. Could this not be an elaborate scam fooling HSBC Admin by exposing customers to vulnerability at the point where the PIN number is being changed?

2 text messages have been sent out by HSBC. If your text states you should change your pin by 6pm tommorrow - then you are one of the high risk people.
If there was no time mentioned on your text - then you are advised to change you pin regardless.

hey I was playing footy last night, down next to nad al sheba racecourse and there was tons of cyclists down there, all with their gear on racing around the roads, it's funny this little places you find - the police HQ is there and a school where we played 5 a side under floodlights - ace.
