Wages breakdown
Can anyone explain, why is the wage broken down into salary, car allowance, rent allowance, Is it to do with any bonus only being paid on basic, end of term payment only paid on basic, yearly negotiated rises only negotiated on basic? Thanks

Yes it has a lot to do with end of service benifit which is calculated on basic.

Also makes it harder to directly compare packages which can work to the employers favour. Not much here works to the employees favour.

(I am dealing with a firm directly - there's no recruiter to ask).
Your help will be invaluable.

Re: Wages breakdown
Thank you for this. It's precisely the post I was searching for. I'm told the formula is something like this: Base / 12 * 19 = (Base + allowances) / 12 = monthly pay. If so, could you tell me how many months housing, how many school fees, etc.

I knew so little when I started looking into Dubai - now I spend an hour a day looking at forums (this one is great) and I have even found someone in exactly the same industry as me happy to discuss their package so i could compare.
Accommodation, wage, packages all depends but personal feedback helps you establish what is good and what is bad.
If you wanna email me any of the basic questions I would be happy to try and help, just personally email me!
Good luck!

The best way to compare any package is simple.
Add all the figures together (salaries benefits allowances all as monetary values) and voila! You have an annual total, that can be directly compared.
It's called addition apparently.

I was and still am trying to learn how many months in addition to the base salary. But your puerile reply helped nonetheless.

Re: Wages breakdown
Being a "newie" to all this I presume he is talking about the additional salary which also known as living allowance. It can be anything up to 2 - 4 months a year all paid in one lump sum for accommodation. Many engineering companies seem to do it. Unfortunetely not my industry! :0(
