I tried looking up the Omani consulate website but failed!
Does anyone know if British citizens require an entry visa before travelling to Oman?
Thanks,
A

You can get a tourist visa on arrival at airport/border crossing if you come in by road and are a British citizen - 20 OMR if I remember correctly? Pay by card. You must have at least 6 months to run on your passport.

We paid 5 OMR because we stayed less than 10 days. The process is very easy at the airport. The following gives more info:-

We are planning to drive by road to Oman, I have heard that its a long wait at the border crossing - more so on UAE national holidays.
I am residing in Abu Dhabi - Am I able to get Visa from Embassy of Oman before I go?

You don't need any kind of Visa to enter Oman if you are a UK passport holder or a US Passport holder.

You do need a visa. It is just that people who hold certain passports (such as UK, US, most European countries, Australia and a few more) do not need to pre-apply before they travel. Holders of the aforementioned passports can get their visa stamped in their passports when they arrive in the country - it just looks like an entry stamp.

You are correct that queues can be hideous at the borders on public holidays - it took us over 3 hours at the Oman border when we crossed at Eid. However, getting a visa in advance does not help - you are still made to stand in the same queues as those without visas. There was someone behind us who had done exactly that, and he was furious.
The best advice I can give is to get there very early indeed, probably before 7am.
