Default Valentine's Day in Dubai

Is anyone keen on Valentine's Day generally, or would you agree that it is a cynical, over-hyped marketing opportunity?

And have you seen the plethora of of highly priced meal deals from many restaurants? (All listed in Time Out.) Top of the scale is Bab al Shambles (sic) at Dhs 2,500 for dinner in a private tent with bubbly (I'm imagining a pup tent) down to that well-known romantic venue Planet Hollywood at Dhs 95 for 3 or 4 courses. Many places are priced at around Dhs 500 for dinner & drinks, rather more expensive than the best brunches, even if they are including 'a rose for the lady'.

I'll go with the first option of the cynical, overhyped marketing opportunity, but you forgot to mention that it's sponsored by Hallmark Cards and Gulf Greetings, their cards are real rip off prices.

I think I'll stop in with a crate of Stella, it's cheaper and somewhat more satisfying.

You are quite right.

The bloke & I are planning an anti-Valentine evening. Beers & junk food on the sofa whilst watching football.

Complete and utter waste of money.

Will be spending it in Jordan (the country, not THE Jordan). Without the wife, who I have yet to tell. She'll be gutted when she finds out I'm not here to take her to Planet Hollywood.

That's always the big question for men...If you could fellate yourself, would you?

Anyway, this Valentine's thing - huge marketing scam now, especially here. Every other ad on the radio is about some deal for a meal or diamonds or some other such nonsense. Bollox to it. I'll take her out a week later for half the price.
