Used car negotiations from dealership?
Hello All,
What is the percentage that can be typically negotiated off the price of a used car from a dealership? Any advice is appreciated so far it seems like car dealers do not negotiate much.

I took 21k off an FJ (125--104), and 12k off a Fortuner (127--115). You have to be prepared to write the cheque there and then and/ or walk away. The Fortuner was closed on the day. The FJ, I walked away from and they came back to me. Also, sit with the guy for ages, drink tea, talk shit, be nice - try and only deal with the manager.
Also, bit the time of the month correctly. Around 20th, they are looking at their targets and may be more flexible vs. say the beginning of the month.
In Nissan, I took 12k (125-113k) on a 370z. Same rules as above.
If you are trying to get money off a yaris, forget it.

yeh, man. I love it. I couldn't do that crappy difc-mirdif drive in the manual FJ anymore so started looking for a fun auto. Wasn't really looking for a 370z, but have always liked them and I was able to reach a good price so went for it... again it's all about being able to walk away.

Interesting because i went to audi and bmw used car division and they barely go down from the price marked on the car. Is it unreal to get a price of 150k from 185k?

I have the exact same experience. I reckon there are so many people willing to pay sticker that they don't give a toss about fobbing one or two potentials off. Also as I'm sure you will have noticed the number of used cars the big brands have available seems to be very limited..

I have wondered about that.
What happens to most of the used cars? Are they bought by specialist dealers and exported to other regions?

Also I am not sure they actually try to acquire used cars like dealerships do in UK and other countries, but rather just sell vehicles that have been traded in.

I suspect a lot of the cars end up in Africa, Pakistan, other parts of the ME.
It's rare to see a car older than 10 years in Dubai so they must be offloaded offshore.
