Default UK Engineer looking to relocate to the Middle East

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and looking forward to being an active member. Apologies if this has been asked before, if so, I’d really appreciate being pointed to the relevant thread.

I’m currently a Senior Electrical Engineer based in the UK with over 15 years of experience. I’m a British citizen and am exploring the possibility of relocating to the Middle East.

At the moment, I’m unsure of the best way to approach this. I’ve reached out to engineering managers on LinkedIn without much success, and I’ve also applied for roles advertised on job websites but haven’t received any responses.

What is generally the best path for securing a role in the Middle East as an engineer? The biggest challenge so far seems to be getting that initial opportunity.

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

As a side question for engineers currently working in the middle east, how do you find it? From what I can see online, pay appears to be significantly higher

Im not in your line of work but it's a question often asked on here from various professions.

You might get some more detailed replies if you give more detail about your area(s) of expertise or experience, qualifications.

Is there any particular part of the ME or particular country ? Whats the motivation for the move ? Money, lifestyle, career progression, do you have family ? these are key points that may well dictate your choice of country and role.

In most parts of the Middle East you will have stiff competition for most roles, hence why you may be getting little response.

If you can give more insight you may get better responses

Direct applications seem to go nowhere, speaking from personal experience. I've had more success building an extensive network on LinkedIn of recruiters in my field.

Communication isn't generally great on this region. Even after job interviews, if not successful will just end with ghosting. See if you can find recruiters based on the UK as a first step.

Investigate which UK and European companies are doing business in the Middle East.
List the local Engineering companies there who work in your field.
Look at big companies who do business out there in well known fields (construction, technology, defence)
Get on a plane and spend a couple of weeks in the region of your interest to get a feel for the place.

Thanks for your feedback, I am a electrical design engineer with over 15 years experience and I am open to many different areas within the ME. The motivations is both lifestyle and money. I have no family so would relocate on my own.

I am actively trying to grow my network on LinkedIn and its a struggle for any response when reaching out to a lot of contacts in the middle east. I will keep going, I have applied for a lot of job applications but get zero response, not sure if they see a U.K CV and deny it from the start as I have no prior experience in the ME.
