Finally landed in Dubai and the wife is starting work tomorrow.
It's my job as house husband and full time daddy to our 1 year old baby girl to find us somewhere to live within the next 3 weeks.
Ideally we are looking for 2 bedrooms (but at a push would go 1) either on a 1 year contract or a short term let as we are still undecided whether to rent or buy longterm. We're ldeally hoping to get somewhere short term until we get familiar with the areas etc.
We also heard that some people rent their maids quarters out? Is this true?
Before I saddle up the pram and trudge the miles between estate agency's can anyone suggest any leads or contacts?
As were finding acommodation is expensive can anyone suggest any places that are a commutable distance from Bur Dubai.
Our budget is 120/130k a year rental or about 1.1m for purchasing.
Yours hopefully!
Craig
P.S. What's the score with the tap water? Can you brew up from it after boiling or should we stick to bottled.
Also... where are all the used car dealers located?

maid's "quarters" is probably a huge over glamourisation...every maid's room i've seen has been really tiny, and no way would it be suitable for your family...even as a short term measure...
tap water is safe to drink, but doesn't taste great (and it's always hot in the summer!)...so fine for a cuppa. Most people tend to get a water cooler and have the water delivered, it's dead cheap...

Thanks MM!
Great news re. tap water! Just need to find some BIG mugs now! You need at least 3 of the little mincey things in our cupboard for a proper brew!

Most people get water coolers (like the ones in the office) for drinking water and the big bottles only cost 9 or 10 dirhams each.

Not sure really, I reckon the palms and the pent house suite in the Burj Al Arab are out for us at the moment lol.
We havn't really been here long and apart from Bur dubai and JB park we havn't managed to see much. We're not really up to speed on nice places to live but to be honest, although very different to where i've previously lived i'm not too keen on Bur Dubai. Don't get me wrong there's probably some nice place around there plus it's handy for the wife's job.
What's it like in Al Barsha?
Ha'way the lads!

hiya Craig, if I was you I would concentrate on the Satwa area, that is just outside of Bur Dubai so still handy for the wife for work. Boydy101 who used to post on here is a QS with Atkins too, I am pretty sure your wife and him will have hooked up by now! He moved to downtown Burj area which is quite handy too but a bit pricey from what I hear. Satwa is a great area to live in, basically everything is in walking distance, hotels, cafes etc.
Al Barsha is right up near Mall of the Emirates which is probably a bit out of the way for you
