Re: Todays signs of panic and collapse
One of my favourite restos had only 4 tables full when we went in on Thursday night...They're thinking of relocating to the ground floor, if that were possible...

Re: Todays signs of panic and collapse
the not-so-weird thing is that the beach level of The Walk is booming. The poor Plaza level is just A Bad Design - not at all permeable, little access, no signage... it was on a hiding to nothing before it even started.

Exactly...Not well promoted, noone knows what's up there, and who can be bothered to run 40 flights of stairs...

there in lies the problem... charge then rents then charge to market and sit back and watch when the whole thing falls on its arse...

Re: Todays signs of panic and collapse
that sucks, i looked the other day and it's still £300 to fly out there. Hotels are only offering deals on 3-4 day breaks which is slightly weird as well

JD, I assume as you say the bargains are dependant on the flight loadings being low, these bargain are real 'last minute' deals, I.e 24-48hrs before?
600aed to uk is great.I'd have to fork out another bundle to get up to gods country though

Re: Todays signs of panic and collapse
ive done the flight twice this year going back to gla, both times overbooked.
my girl is crew also and bids for glasgow a lot, each time has been more or less full.
The thing is, many of the people on the flight arent actually going to or coming from DXB (id say around 25%) most seem to be to/from Australia

Re: Todays signs of panic and collapse
Let remember that the majority of its wealth was based on Real estate, fuelled by tourism.
Tourism seems to be dead.
I flew to the UK the other week and the flight cost me 600dhs.
Not only that, the plane was empty and i had my choice of row upon row of seats, so i pushed all the arm rests up and layed flat across four seats..bargain
I have flown out recently from both terminal 1 and 3...both are empty.
Eithad are currently emailing me offering "buy one flight..get one free"
I still think this place is going to get much worse before it stabilised

However, as we are a captive market, prices are not coming down, it all depends on where you are flying from i.e. AUH - LHR - AUH - £568, LHR - AUH - LHR - £270 - early Feb' 09 travel. Just makes you feel great living in AD

Re: Todays signs of panic and collapse
Indeed. The walk has a definite 'feel' of a stroll along a beach. The plaza level has very little passing footfall, no signage (but I doubt that'd help anyway), and a terrible atmosphere - it's not enjoyable to walk around the plaza level of JBR.
