Hi, I was on a few months back looking in to jobs as a Design Draughtsman (Structural) for an O&G Services Company in Dubai/Abu Dhabi. The company who I work in Aberdeen just now has just recently set up an Engineering Drawing Office in Dubai and most of the employees are Indian. Have found out what they get paid and it's incredible! so bad, probs about 1/3 of UK norm.

Does anyone know if most jobs in the Design Draughting field are given out to Indians etc as they will except very low pay for very long hours?, I couldn't possibly live on their earnings!.

Help would be very much appreciated. Think I spoke to Arbroath Abroad about this back then. Have a Degree in Architecture and currently working on a HNC in Mechanical Engineering.

Not sure about this specific field, but in most commercial professions, you will find Indians-Pakistanis-Filipinos here doing jobs for what seem to us to be pitiful wages. However, compared with back home, they are relatively well-off. Certainly if I owned a company here I would much rather employ half a dozen, hard working and conscientious TPNs rather than 1-2 Westerners who would probably arrive drunk and would be more likely to spend their working day surfing the net

Thanks for the insight that Westerners are always drunk and on the internet lol.

Is there any companies that people know about who deal in Structural Draughting/Surveying i.e. Subsea 7, Technip, Fugro etc. Or even Recruitment Agencies based in UK and UAE who deal in this because there are so many agencies out there but hard to find the right ones?

try Park Brown in Golden Square, they are an executive search firm specialising in Oil and gas and do some work out here. There used to be a specialist recruitment firm on Union st as well focusing on o&g think it was near past times or thereabouts

A feed I got from boddach (a fellow sheep shagger) a while back listed the companies below:

Arab Heavy Industries Ajman

Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Bahrain

Lamprell Energy Sharjah

All the above companies build jack up rigs and repair them. Ring a bell to anyone?
