Default Tecom visa

Right looking for a bit of advice. A friend was just made redundant from a Tecom based company a week before their probation period was up (as we're a few others). This seems to be the modus operandi of this shit bag company ( they even manage to persuade employees that they are responsible for the visa processing costs and deduct these from final settlement).

Anyway this friend is due to go on holiday next week and the employer is insisting they hand over the passport to have the visa cancelled. There is a risk the visa cancellation might not be completed on time and the friend will miss the holiday. The employer also insist the visa has to be cancelled before thy pay out the final settlement.

So the question is this. What is the worst that can happen if the employee ignores the employer for a week and goes on holiday, and returns the passport after the holiday (employer is currently being a cock of the highest order)?

Holiday is only for 4 days
