Default Storage in the UK

Hi all,

I have 7 boxes in storage in the UK but the place I am storingthem is being sold and will no longer be able to store them, so does anyoen use a specific storage facility? I looked at the big yellow storage place but it seemed quite expensive- any other suggestions? And yes I have googled it just looking for recomendations.

Alternatively how much would it cost to ship them to me here?

Thanks

Kittycat
x

PS Im looking at 3 more years here so storage costs for 3 years vs shipping it all out?

I had quite a big box / small container about 7ft high, 6ft deep and 5ft wide. Cost me £42 a month with some old furniture I had in it.

Biggest waste of money ever, but it was with a firm called Armishaws

we had a small unit/ room with the Big Yellow and it was about £30-40/ month, as I remember. I'm sure tehre are other companies that are similar. Have you tried asking them for long-term storage prices? They sometimes have special deals, but that don't figure on their sites.

I don't understand long term storage. If you haven't used it or looked at it for 3 years then surely you don't need it and you can sell/ bin it. Ship it over and let the humidity kill it.

I agree with you Millhouse (I know darling..shock! horror!!)
If you haven't missed it or don't use it then get rid of it! The only items that I have taken from country to country are my Lladro pieces and my crystal glasses and decanters and my personal possessions ...ie photos etc.

most of the stuff I have in storage are books, some artwork and sentimental stuff, stuff that I can live without for a while but not stuff I want to get rid of by any means. its taken me years to build up my little library and Im quite anal about books so can't bare to get rid of them. As I originally only intended on doing 3 years here and I had a good deal on the strorage it didnt make sense to ship it out- but if it means paying 40quid a month for another 3 years it may just make more sense to have it shipped out- does anyone have any idea how much it would cost or how I would go about doing that?

Thanks

there are loads of shipping companies - we used Dory Bonner - and they're generally based on cubic foot or cubic meter, so if you know what volume you've got in storage, then it'd be quite easy to get a few quotes. I think we had about 12 removals boxes full of stuff and I seem to remember it came to about £900... maybe.

Remember the price for shipping back as well compared to the approx £1500 storage cost for 3 years.

sounds the same as my dad to a tee.

luckily I've still got my own house in the Uk - rented out, but I attached a padlock to the attic which contains all my 'crap' that I didn't want to throw out or take over here.

Tell your dad you'll pay him £10 a month to store it for you - if he's that miserable he might appreciate money for nothing (and unless a complete scrooge I doubt he'll take the money from you).

Oh that's a bit mean, especially as you are so generous on father's day.

I actually have very little at my parents. Just some clothes, mainly jumpers, boots & coats.

Do you not have any friends with space to store things for you?

There are a few companies that will ship a few boxes for you. This is one of them http://www.allfreight.co.uk/ although I don't have personal expereince of them.
