Spice advice!

OK, this may sound really odd but I have to ask. Does anyone know of a spice/herb/food that could possibly keep you awake at night? Every time I cook a curry - Indian or Thai - I have the worst nights sleep ever, lying there all night trying to convince myself that I am asleep! HORRIBLE! I know the jokes will probably come flying now but any knowledge would be greatly appreciated - I love my curries but love my sleep more! :)

Surely the sleepiness of the Vodka cancels the alertness of the red bull out?

But darlings, you should be enjoying Pink Champagne!

Cool - this can be done. And by the way - I have ZERO problem sleeping on Vodka red bull - its the hangover I get at 2pm the next afternoon once its worn off that kills me!!

There is nothing in Curry that keeps you awake all night :D

is it always the same type of curry you have that causes this problem? Do you always go to the same place? Keep a curry diary to pinpoint the culprit :p

Lavender is supposed to be good for helping you get to sleep. However, in a curry... not sure about that  ;)

Also lavender smells like old ladies!!

Now NooNoo if you are a lady and of a certain age spicy food can have that effect. It makes no difference if it's Thai, Indian or anything else. check out the Mayo clinic site!

Plain food is boring but it's could be that and a good nights sleep or enjoyment and no sleep. The choice is yours!!

MSG (mono sodium glutonate or aginamoto (if from the far east)) is included in some packets of curry and chilli powder sold locally. Its a middle and far eastern ingredient used for tenderising meat. It speeds the heart up and will keep u awake (9 out of 10 takeaways use it as it speeds up the cooking process) I banned it on my ships as it also gives you a heart attack if used long term and the Filipino cooks used to swear by it.

Cheers
