Yateem are my Optition of choice.

One of the plusses of the UAE is that they just bang out contact lenses without making you have costly periodic check ups a la UK

Anyone have any optometry experience? I need to understand if an optometrist's prescription defines (or limits) the focal length of the lenses. Can the optometrist tinker with the prescription to alter the focal length?

I have just bought 2 pairs of glasses, 1 for reading and 1 for driving/long distance. 2000dhs for both pairs. Nice frames and very complex eye test. It was a bit more expensive because I bought some very nice frames for the reading glasses @ 800dhs. So really, 2 pairs of glasses, average price frames would be about 1200/1600dhs so not bad really.
