Short Term Contracts? Advice please!
Hi - I've recently arrived, and sooner than I had hoped have been offered a job. However, I'm still on a visit visa, and this job is for a short period only (could be 4 weeks, could be ongoing) as the company has been seconding staff out from Europe, but want to fill these short term positions with locally based expats, as obviously it's more cost effective. My question is, has anyone got any experience of a similar situation, as this role is NOT permanent and hence won't come with healthcare/benefits etc etc - how will it work legally with sponsorship? Do they still have to provide that, even in the shortterm? I'd like some advice before I ask THEM and hence don't get ripped off.... Thanks!

yes, and it means that you have the hassle of dealing with the visa - if you were to continue with a visit visa, then be warned, I've heard the "popping to Oman for the weekend" thing no longer works - to get it renewed, once you leave the UAE, you have to stay out for min 30 days.
This arrangement would be great if you were sponsored by your partner already, but no, it doesn't look like a brilliant career solution.
You could always argue that they should take you on, and save on the relocation bonus they have to give people they ship over.
