Dubai: Motorists are expected to face longer delays on Shaikh Zayed Road as traffic will be diverted due to the construction of bridges for the Dubai Creek extension project, Gulf News has learnt.
"Major diversions will take place within a few weeks, as part of Shaikh Zayed Road will be lifted to pave way for the construction of a canal," said a senior official.
A stretch of some 800 metres of the road between the Second Interchange (Al Safa Interchange) and the Dnata building (before the Salik toll gate) will be affected.
Traffic diversions will be in place within a few weeks but the exact date has not yet been announced. However, an RTA source said that the diversions are being planned and will probably be in place next month.

Won't it all happen again in the next year when they build the other canal section between Interchanges 2 and 3...that is that section where the monorail is elevated to its highest point ?

Re: Sheikh Zayed Road Chaos
That means everything from Junction 2 to the creek will be an island
So, two possibilities;
It breaks off from the mainland and crashes into the world destroying both.
Or; residents of Jumeirah Island declare independence and create a tax free state, they allow the consumption of booze and sell the place as a tourist destination. Property prices go through the roof until there is a global credit crisis, then......

I see where your going with this but will slot machines and dehydrated sandwiches really make you happy? Really?
Casino is just a silly idea, the government would never allow investors a safer place with better returns than real estate at a time like this .
