But my mates wife who works for a European company said that her hairdresser said one of the local ladies hair she cuts said that her maid had been told by the security guard that one guy thought it would get announced in 3 days time or yesterday, or tomorrow. He found that out from a guy in his office who was told by the tea boy that he didn't know what day it was today, but knew for certain that something was due to be announced because it was windy yesterday and last time something big was announced it was windy the day before. BUT, it was only windy for two hours so it might not mean anything. Anyway, there was another guy who...............

etc.

really...what's this obsession...for months now people have claiimed to be 'in the know' and it never happened the way they were so reliabily informed by their special contact who really really knows what is going on...when 'they' want us to know, we will know and even then we will not ever know everything. Anything before that is speculation. Really anyone can start a rumour here in Dubai, and it spreads like wild fire.

Machiavellian political intrigue

That's always well worth a gossip and good rumour

Anywhere that thrives on secrecy has an unhealthy rumour mill running alongside 'official' channels.

It's human nature that in a vacuum of information people will try and fill it, and that will generally be with rumour and speculation. The fact the "powers that be" here insist on trying to control the flow of information, and keep control over people through denying them information, is another sign of how immature their method of governance is.

Would love to hear the gossip if anyone wants to PM it to me.

I think everyone has heard the same...I've lost count of the number of times in the past few weeks where various friends and colleagues have heard 'from high up' that bad news is coming.

As you say, it's not something that is released to the general population here (as opposed to say the UK where everyone knew the queen was in hospital with a bad case of the trots last year).

When it comes to important public figures, it can be argued that the people should know what's going on. On the other hand, it's a person with a family who are going through a difficult time.

Yep, heard all the rumours over the last few weeks/months. Just interested whether its worth looking to cheap flights any time soon to to avoid a few days of pipe pipes.

I agree to an extent, but when that person has chosen to hold a position of power and has influence over so much politically, economically, socially etc then I would have thought more transparency would be helpful. Although the cloak and dagger nature of the shake down (no pun intended) on who gets what position/pay off here is I assume a reason to keep things hush hush.
