Sewage on beach?
Hello, my husband is arranging a relocation to Dubai, but we've recently heard reports about beaches being shut because of raw sewage on the beach. Jumeirah beach? Is the affected beach near Jumeirah and Umm Suquiem?
Has this problem been resolved now?
Thanks

is this the main factor in your decision to move??

Maybe you ought to visit Dubai before making your final decision... there will be quite a few things that you either need to turn a blind eye to or just accept (hang on, that's the same thing, isn't it...)... it isn't the UK - and unless there's a low-paid indian chap spending his long days cleaning somewhere, you can generally say it's not a great concern [to the Powers That Be].

Re: Sewage on beach?
The sewage pollution problem was due to tanker drivers dumping their loads into the storm drain system in the Al Quoz area. They were doing this rather than queuing up for 12 hours at a time at the sewage plant near International City. This storm drain system exits into the sea right at the end of the jetty at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) which is in the middle of Jumeriah/Umm Suqiem beach. The authorities have clamped down on tanker drivers who have been doing this - so the problem has reduced, but has not disappeared entirely. Until Dubai gets some more sewage treatment capacity up and running this is not going to be solved and will be a recurring problem. When it does occur it only tends to affect the beaches right next to DOSC, those further away have no real problems.

It's better than driving around, or digging holes, or putting up bridges - just take a book and sit there until it's your turn, nee worries.

I saw a report where the authorities were engaged in a 24/7 game of cat-and-mouse with these drivers who get very good at disposing of vast quantities of turds on the quiet. (chortle chortle)
But seriously, they have to coordinate teams of 4x4s using walkie-talkies in order to catch the drivers with their proverbial pants down. Night-vision, cameras, binoculars, disguises....
One tanker had a new hidden outlet cut out at the bottom, and the driver would just park over an unsuspecting manhole and let 'er rip. The hole was much bigger than the usual outlet so it took moments to dump the load and drive off. He wouldn't even have to get out of the truck...

It's not like they'll have hoards of NIMBY's creating a fuss.

Maybe they are already building a new plant?
But who knows how that city will grow in the next ten years anyway? Planning for infrastructure is not gonna be able to match growth.
