And I think we're being billeted at the Al Liwan Suites at 27 Umm Ghowailina Street. I have no idea whether this is good or bad... a heads up would be much appreciated. Cheers... So where would be a good alternative to the Rugby club for a newbie?
Thanks again

I stay in the Al Liwan and have done since November. It's a slight step up from the Ezdan where I first landed, but only just. The area around is a shithole and has raw sewage leaking out sewar covers, but that is a bit of a feature of backstreet Doha.

Internet is utterly crap and I have been getting 10kbs download this week at peak times! They say it works OK as I get three bars of Wi-Fi on my macbook! Food is pretty crap and a bit hit and miss as it is never the same 2 nights in a row.

Crowne Plaza is my local (Brazilian bar) and I go in most weekends when I am not in Dubai, however they have just put the price of stella up to 45 Riyals after the 2 hr happy hour(5-7), with tip it is roughly £9 a pint! Not sure what other bars are in the Hotel and if they are any cheaper or not

Cheers Flood. looks like the Al Liwan has been knocked on the head in favour of shared accommodation... probably going to be 2 bed units somewhere in the same suburb. there is a crew of us coming over form Oz so we'll be doubling up... was originally going to be for 5 weeks but has already been extended to 3 months... and not even there yet! Wife is over the moon.... Not. Still, gotta be done I suppose.
45QR works out at roughly AU$11-12 not good, nightclub prices! what's it cost during happy hour?
terms are pretty ordinary too, we're getting an QR800/week allowance so I'm guessing I'll still be dipping into the funds back here in Oz. We do get a 15% uplift on our regular salary but not keen on touching too much of that.... or the missus isn't I should say! lol

At what time do ppl normally clock-off in Doha... office hours that is? Basically if I'm going to miss the happy hour I'm not coming!
