Unhappy Saudia lost baggage

Saudi Airlines has kindly managed to lose my suitcase on a Beijing-Jeddah flight last week.

I have a "wasta" and someone is on the case at the Jeddah HQ and they have run an extensive search throughout their 787 network, but they can't trace my suitcase despite all their efforts. I have been reassured that I will be compensated "generously" for my loss but I dont want the money as some of the items in the suitcase had a sentimental value.

Has this happened to anyone and is there anything out of the ordinary that you did to retrieve your luggage (besides registering a claim with the airline, tracking lost luggage through the app, emailing Guest Relations etc.,) ?

I tavelled business class and I am a Gold member of Alfursan if it helps.

Were the sentimental items also of monetary value or were there high value items in your case?

I know loads of people who have had luggage lost by Saudia, but it always turned up in the end. My wife's bag didn't arrive into Riyadh once. We had to stay overnight then come back for a flight next morning so went back to the lost luggage office who checked and said nothing had turned up. She asked to see in the back and managed to find it immediately... Worth turning up in person if you can and speaking to them.

Obviously no use in this case, but you can get 4 airtags for £99 and I'd recommend everyone use them - no guarantee but it gives you another chance to find a case if lost.

Thanks for the reassurance. I have heard from multiple people who had their luggage lost by Saudia that they eventually found it so I hope will mine turn up as well. Visiting the airport in person unfortunately is not an option at present as I wont be there again until a few more weeks.

But just to add something new to the mix, a contact at Beijing did some digging and has informed me this morning that the system shows that my suitcase never left PKX. However, Saudia's app is showing that the suitcase is at JED and awaiting shipment to next destination. Not sure who to believe anymore!

Lesson learned indeed so we purchased a set of airtags on the weekend lol.
