Does the original degree have to be used or will a notarised copy suffice? I don't like the idea of having all sorts of stamps on the original.

Make a color (similar to the original as much as possible) notarised copy and collect all stamps on it. Then make few color copies as giveaways where required.
Keep original and stamped copy always in your hands.
