Re: Salary and Package
I really appreciate everyone's feedback. It has opened my eyes and I at least know what I have to earn to maintain the same standard of living that we have here. I will definitely fight to make sure we maintain the same standard and if we don't, then we don't go.
Thank you to everyone! |
Re: Salary and Package
OMG!! PD!! Nearly fell over when I saw your name on the main page list! Can't believe the twins are 3 months old already!

Re: Salary and Package
Not sure if anyone has commented - but if they already have kids at private schools in England, I'm willing to bet they will be disappointed with the standard of education out here.
A private school in dubai is a far cry from a private school in England I'm led to believe. |

Yeah is that right just how many kids do you have in school over here TA5 My son was at private school in UK and it is different but certainly not as bad as state school.......... The problems schools face here is alot different than a private school at home where everyone expects the same. Here the parents are a real nightmare for schools you have people from all over the world and everyone expects it to be tailored to them.... people complain about everything people from private background complain its not strict enough not enough work ect... people from state background complain the opposite then theres people from different cultures all together... I can only comment on british curriculum schools but I do think if I had complained the way I have heard some parents here, complain in a private school in UK I would have been told "well leave" "this is the way we do it if you dont like it go"............. I am quiet happy with the standerd of education at my sons school and even better that he has a totally mixed class with about 12 different nationalities its just a different learning experience but definatly not better or worse just different.............. enough rambling  |

The problems you bring up are precisely the problem with the system here. If you are used to a private education in the UK then you may find it worse here, and less challenging. |
Re: Salary and Package
I will definitely miss my daughter's school here. It is an amazing school but also has a £15K price tag annually. Now that we have three kids, we wouldn't be able to afford it for all three (when the twins are of school age) and our local state schools are awful.
I am of the opinion that whatever the school lacks educationally can be made up by us (hopefully) and that my husband and I will work with the kids to make sure they learn everything we hope they should. |
Re: Salary and Package
With schools, yes they aren't as good as private in the UK. And be careful which one you choose. My smaller one is at Jumeriah Primary School, and it's within walking distance from our house too.

Alot of people jump on the education bandwagon here but to be honest my son was at a top prep school in Edinburgh and if you compare the work they cover its the same.... it has to be because if your doing the british curriculum all school, private or not have to cover it, when i compare with his friends at home they are all doing the same sort of thing........ they have to be... for some reason people who never really bothered about schools at home turn into these manic nightmare parents out here.......... and I think theres another reason private school parents from the UK dont like the schools out here........... could be something to do with ... anyone goes parents that wouldnt even consider it at home are there it just doesnt have the same "elitism" it has at home you have to mix with the riffraff... :p |
Re: Salary and Package
I really appreciate all of the feedback. What schools do you all believe are better? My daughter will be starting Year 4. I don't have to worry about the twins for a while since they are only 3 months old. :)
A silly side question.. does anyone know how long the flight from Dubai to Jakarta is? My FIL lives there and it would be nice to spend more time with him. |
Re: Salary and Package
I think the best probably are JPS or Jess you will need debenture for Jess, my son is at Wellington which is a new school owned by the same people as JPS GEMS education have a look at their website they have alot of schools all different prices.. My son just finished year four at Wellington and it was definatly his best year yet at school but that was probably down to the teacher..... I have also heard that Kings is good but they only go up to year 6..........

(I have no idea) |
