The Rent Poll

Re: The Rent Poll
Bayt published the results of a survey in November - granted that most of the respondents were expat Arabs, not Westerners, but the summary shows that about 30% were getting their rent covered, another 30% were getting an allowance that doesn't cover the rent - leaving 40% finding the rent themselves...

Re: The Rent Poll
New to Dubai. Been in Qatar, Bahrain and West Africa before, always got company accommodation and car included.
Here it is very different. I get an allowance, which just about covers the headline rent for a modest one bedroom flat in Bur Dubai etc. .......but, when you factor in the deposits, taxes, charges etc plus furnishings, it is not enough, so I supplement from my basic salary.

Re: The Rent Poll
Gareth I think I am qualified enough in the 'expat relocation' scheme of things to be able to comment on the packages that I hear about. I am contacted daily by women via my DWC website and now via EJ too about their concerns moving here and what allowances they are offered. We hear regularly on here too about peoples expectations and allowances. I would say the vast majority of the ones I advise get enough housing allowance to put a roof over their heads, or have a big enough gross package to cover their rent. If not I advise them against their move. It happens

Re: The Rent Poll
back to the poll, it appears that the majority of the posters on here are happy with their rent allowances and only one falls short and has to top it up.

Re: The Rent Poll
My very modest allowance covers my rent but only because I accept more basic living standards (shared Villa).

Re: The Rent Poll
If you are salaried you get paid for turning up, no matter what you do on a particular day. You have a 'safety net'. If I don't work I don't get paid & it is getting increasingly hard for me to put the effort in right now. Need a break I think.
