Default Removal companies AD to Oman

Anyone moved from AD to Oman ( or vice versa)recently can advise plz? Getting quotes but some saying can take up to 2 weeks to move furniture (freight international/ interim ) whilst another said 3 days to pack and get it there which seems more realistic bearing in mind they might have to queue and be checked at border. Even got asked by one did we want to ship by sea or road?! Is 3 bed apt but don't have loads of stuff, quite sparse really compared to UK house. Removal company recommends/avoids also welcome, thanks!

Our friends are doing exactly that this week. They tried 4 or 5 companies, and it came down to Crown or Allied-Pickfords. They chose the former. I think they were told the actual road move would take 3 days (the pack for a full family house is taking 5 days, but they have been here for 9 years and have loads of stuff). They were likewise offered a sea move by one company. I think the final issue they faced is that their container won't be delivered in Muscat till they have a residents' visa in a passport, so they'll have a couple of weeks in a hotel while that is finished.

Thanks Archie. Not had quotes from those will see what others come back with first then perhaps ask them, we aren't going until Oct. One company, Phoenix I think, did say that a copy of visa, passport & a letter from employer will be required in advance for them to give to Omani police & that they would also send a van from Oman to do move as that can be easier, although they haven't given us a price yet - they might be astronomical!

Not exactly recent - moved from DXB to Oman two years ago and used Allied Pickfords and were more than happy with their service. Started packing up our villa on a Monday morning, finished packing on Thursday afternoon. We weren't going to Muscat until the Sunday so they kept our stuff at their depot until then and it was then driven to Muscat by their Oman associate company Swift Connections (or something like that).

We had supplied Allied Pickfords with copies of our Oman residence visas and passports so,that there was no problem with our possessions at the border. Swift delivered our stuff to our villa on the,Monday lunchtime and everything ( well over 100 packing cases plus furniture) was unwrapped and unpacked and in the correct room by 7pm that evening. No breakages and nothing missing.

AP weren't the cheapest but they moved us successfully from the UK to Dubai in 2005 and did the same in 2012 when we moved to Muscat.

We are currently moving our stuff from UK to Muscat, my co chose K2 in UK and their counterparts here in Muscat are 'WRITER corporation'. we still have three weeks in the scheduled time for the container to arrive here. That's when we will come to know their service quality but you can check them out...

Thanks all. We're going with Freight International as a good price including everything we asked for and insurance. They have also answered all our queries quickly and can do the dates we want - now putting stuff in store 3 weeks until villa we've chosen is ready so timing not so much an issue now. All we can do now is wait & see if they are as well organised as they seem and that AUH and Omani customs don't cause any issues in transit, not that there should be with what we're moving!
