Recycling in Dubai
Hey guys
In reference to these little recycle bins scattered here and there in Dubai:
)
There are three slots: Plastic bottles, cans, other
My question is - do you know if it's OK to put plastic bags and other plastic bits and pieces in the 'plastic bottles' part? By other bits and pieces I mean the thin plastic tubs you usually get a salad in at the supermarket, or your lunchtime curry.
Also, do any of you go anywhere specific to take stuff to be recycled?
Cheers

To be fair, I really wouldn't worry cos it all ends up at the same place with workers sorting out the stuff that was put in it.
Sad but true.

Sadly, it's like that at my local dump too...so I don't see the point in them making us sort it out. Oh well :/

Re: Recycling in Dubai
The only things that are recycled in Dubai are (i) the expats, (ii) my piss poor jokes, (iii) the air-conditioned air, and (iv) the hookers.
I wouldn't worry too much about your empty tins of pop.

Pah! What a bunch of excuse-making, lazy expats you are! I refuse to be discouraged...........

The best form of recycling here is to leave anything that can be used again or cardboard outside, within an hour it will be gone, strapped to the back of a knackered bike and being ridden the wrong way round a roundabout.

Lol. My balcony overlooks a busy road (fun) I suppose I could just chuck it all off there and wait for these scrap fairies to get it. My bit for the planet done!

Re: Recycling in Dubai
I nip down to Knowledge Village and feed my recycling into this machine.
I get 2 airmiles points for every can or plastic bottle
better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick

Re: Recycling in Dubai
I visited a waste plant in Sharjah some years ago the waste is basically dumbed on a conveyor belt and low paid workers pick through it separating metals from plastic etc. What was worrying is that if a half eaten Big Mac goes through it's picked out and eaten.
Shocking and gross. It was explained to me that food rotting heats up and so the 3 day old half eaten Big Mac is warm.
