Glad to see so many people concerned and talking about people who always stay in the background. Suppose these are the people who really built Dubai to what it is today. Sad they have to go through all that you guys mentioned. Point is, is it really Dubai (or the Dubai companies who hire these people) we should blame? The reason why they come here, isn't coz its tax free or coz they're respected or valued more here (as most westerners might feel) but they move to Dubai due to trouble back home. Lack of jobs, lack of security, lack of decent drinking water, lack of..whatver... Lets not even go to recreation etc. because I suppose they dont really get into that over here. The point is, that they come here by choice, stay here by choice, because obviously, things're worse back home.
So if you wanna blame somebody, blame their policy makers etc back home.
I dunno, I havent slept much so maybe Im totally talkin outta my A!#....... and outta boredom!

Re house maids in Saudi - they are yes kept virtually imprisoned by the locals in many cases, but the majority of ex-pats have non-live in maids who live in shared accommodation with their friends or husbands. In Duba, judging from posts on another expat site, most of the maids are kept imprisoned by the ex-pats . . . .

Excuse me, how long did it take for slavery to be abolished in the west? How long did it take for the British Empire to wither away? How old is the UAE? Don't draw irrelevant comparisons.
