Racism in Dubai nightspots!

Re: Racism in Dubai nightspots!
Shocho, the Leb place... (owner, manager, crowd, etc), therefore, if you look "slick" (in their own eyes, obviously) you'll be greeted, if you're too casual, you'll be grated.
Moral: better a super-tacky Armani shirt open to your hairy belly than a normal "georgetown university" T-shirt. ESPECIALLY if you're a chocolate face!
Unless, of course, you're not a beautiful Dutch spy. Or you were one, , Lesbanese wear sunglasses all the time, they can't distinguish much more than the long hair.
I stopped going there when I heard the one-too-many unknown face calling me "habibi". Funny enough both the owner and manager were customers of mine
DD: you must be s*itting me! That place is SO SAD!
RB: after 1 am it starts being funny, usually because of an ongoing fight, fake-ids making out to warm up the boys and, of course: the pool table!
The lodge, apartment, trilogy: NEVER been there, and proud to be!!!SHAKIRA???AHAHAHAHAHA!Just funny.
I take a guess: none of you ever has ever been to club Africana, blue bar?Marco Polo in Deira? Indie, tell me you've been!Desi, Palm Beach Rotana? Mehfil!
Maybe the Dutch spy...

However the perception is that the Asian guys and gals don't drink much (at least when compared to a UK/Aus/SA citizen) so there's not as much cash to be made from them, and then there's the fact that they'll buy 1 drink (coke) and keep it all night.
That's one of the reasons (according to a bar manager I know)

This is one of the reasons why I rarely go to any of those bars and stick to the older (and possibly more seedy!) pubs in Dubai where the oldtimers go...when you earn 4 or 5 times as much as the bouncers, bar staff and management combined you don't like to be told crap about couples only (I was told this once when escorting two women...and I am barely olive skinned)
Oh the joys of racist Dubai....!

I guess it's probably the way people of my father's generation were treated in Britain in the 60s before they became fully integrated (coming over to work in the textile mills before opening businesses of their own)
It never bothers me because I never take it personally but I thought I'd check from first hand sources before going to some of these places.

Madam Medusa, unfortunately I have felt it a couple of times in Dubai. I find it hard to describe but it's usually before I begin speaking or show my passport and they realise I'm a Brit. I suppose it's because guys who look like me drive the taxis or build the palm islands. . .

Actually some of the worst I have seen has been from Indians from Mumbai/Dehli towards southern Indians.

As I also look Indian (I AM Indian!) am slightly concerned about clubbing in Dubai now, but as most of the time (until i make friends out there!) I will be with my hubbie (also of Indian origin) hopefully we will be ok.. A Yemeni friend did tell me I looked Arab and would teach me a bit of the lingo before I move out so that should help too.. i think!
forgot to say Insef - yes I can imagine that is unfortunately the case

when i lived in Mexico, as I looked Mexican I got treated a lot worse in certain places (tourist shops, tourist clubs during Spring Break (*obligatory Woohoo!!!!!*) until i opened my gob and they realised I was actually British in which case I would be let into said club, or stop being followed in said shop.. that was the treatment from other Mexicans by the way!

You "look Mexican"? Men greet you with "Woohoo"?
You obviously look like Salma Hayek, or maybe Penelope Cruz........
To give you a fully detailed answer, and to give you guidance about which clubs you WILL be admitted to, why not post some recent photographs of yourself? It can only help.........

i may well refrain from sending pics though - you might be disappointed and i quite like spreading this rumour to people who havent met me that i look like Salma Hayek!! I dont want the dream to be shattered so lets not meet either!
no men do NOT greet me with "woohoo!!!" i was referring to Spring Break! Full of students from North America getting wrecked and screaming "woohoo!!" not at me though you understsand..
i get your confusion - my post was totally random and i forgot the point i was making - damn i must be more bored at work today than normal..
