quick hr question
hi there,
im in the final throws of accepting an offer for dubai.
first offer too low, i then asked for more, they replied that that was too much (payscales), they asked what i was looking for, so i put a package together - basic, housing, etc, they said yes to that.
i am now wondering if i could try for a fraction more in the housing, say 1000aed per month. do you think i should ask or forget as it may backfire.
they say that i get a car allowance but i have to pay for the first month or so when i arrive, i would have thought the company should provide transport at their cost not mine.
thanks for any advise.

Re: quick hr question
If you rent a car then you pay in advance but will get the allowance in arrears - that may be what they are alluding to. Also they are right - they will give you an allowance - spending it is up to you. If they gave you a car that would be different. I know it is pedantic but the difference is real.
The issue is not asking for 1000AED but asking. If you have a case for asking for 1000AED then ask for it if you just want more then that will be obvious. I suggest that there is no point in asking just for more if that is the amount - it may annoy them. If you have a real cost case then let them have it - for example a bigger flat, buying a UAE compatible pacemaker or something tangible.
If 1000 is a lot in comparison with your salary then you may have a bigger issue.
Good luck with the new job.
